Confession Meme
I surfed over to Relaxed Parents from Ms. Mamma’s comments, and found this little meme. It talks about blogging, which I’ve been thinking about since my pseudo-hiatus-thing*, so I thought I’d play along.
Ten Blogging Confessions
1. Do you promote your blog?
I’m not sure HOW to promote my blog. I haven’t really signed up for any services that might do that. I do leave my url when I comment, but I don’t comment randomly. I only comment when a post makes me want to chime in.
2. How often do you check hits?
Rarely. I was pretty interested in it for awhile, but when I discovered that the majority of hits that I get are people searching for groovy photos that I’ve pinched from elsewhere on the web, I lost interest.
3. Do you stick to one main topic?
Yes. Whatever I’m ‘Thinking About’ at that particular instant. 😉
4. Who knows you have a blog?
Besides you, dear reader? My family, though some care, some don’t bother to read. My friends. Anyone who passes me on the street…ok, maybe not them. I don’t tell my coworkers about it, but at the same time, I don’t hide it from them. I just don’t talk about work on my blog. Good policy, right Dooce?
5. How many blogs do you read?
Mostly just those that are on my sidebar there…though some of you are known for not posting every day, so I don’t bother to check all that often…it’s easy to get caught up if I fall behind on those. If someone comments on my post, I’ll go and check out their blog. Sometimes quite often. Sometimes I surf around from comments I read on other folks’ blogs, like I did to come to Relaxed Parents.
6. Are you a fast reader?
Medium fast, I’d say.
7. Do you customise you blog or do anything technical?
I customized it with the pretty header that my friend Jeff made for me, and the sidebar with little pictures and so on, but nothing fancy. Sometimes I drop in some songs.
8. Do you blog anonymously?
No. I don’t go out publishing my name, but it’s not really a secret, either. I mean, I’ve got my picture up, my husband’s picture up, and my daughter’s picture up. Not too anonymous, is it?
9. To what extent do you censor yourself?
Um…I don’t write about work, and I try not to write anything that would hurt someone, should they come across my blog. I don’t want to spend my life apologizing for offending someone I care about. It’s not worth it, and I’d rather not blog. So, I’ll open up and tell you all kind of boring and mundane details about my life, but some stuff stays off the internets.
10. The best thing about blogging?
Making new friends. Finding my voice, in a way. I haven’t ever had the discipline to sit down and write every (sort of every) day, and it’s been both a blessing and a curse.
I’m not tagging, but let me know if you’re going to do this one. Could be interesting.
*The hiatus…Gina pegged it in an email she sent me, asking if I had ‘blogging ennui’. That’s just what it was. I felt like everything I had to say, I had said already…which was new for me. Usually I have so many posts coming, they just flow flow flow. I’m not sure where I’m at with it now…but clearly, I’m not on hiatus. So I may be a hypocrite, but I’m back to posting…not sure it will be every day, but whenever I come up with something. 🙂

yes, i’ve also (obviously) had the “been there, posted that” disease as well. and everything i want to post has to do with my funny kids. and then i start feeling like why would anybody care about what my kids did?
but then i read back all those things, some of them i’d already forgotten, and realize why i started blogging in the first place. for a diary for myself and our family.

I love posting about the folks I work with…they’re so “colorful and interesting” to say the very least.

I talk about work, but I don’t think I say anything that would cause many eyebrows to be raised — but I could be wrong. :-0

I never lie but there is much of my life which will never make it to the blog.
I’m not anonymous at all and this is a small town.
Good answers. I don’t check my stat counter very often either.

I like this meme. I need to customize my blog. I haven’t been able to figure out how though. I’m a little “special” when it comes to that stuff. I don’t blog anonymously either. I guess I should be nicer with my posts…..nah! 🙂

I love memes. 🙂

I like reading how other people think about their blogs.
I’m sure you’ll find some more blogging inspiration before too long. Hang in there.

You are not a hypocrite! You have the right to change your mind!
I have done absolutely nothing either to promote my blog. I rarely try and look for new blogs to read, I just don’t have that much time. Although I do make it a policy to visit people who have been kind enough to stop by and leave a comment on mine.

Interesting meme.
It struck me the other day that it’s been well over a year since I’ve been reading your blog. I think yours was one of the first blogs I started to read and then it led me to all the others I visit daily.
It amazes me how you seem to always have an interesting post everyday. I guess it’s fair to take a hiatus but don’t make it a long one. Just in case you change your mind, I’ll still visit:)

Making new friends and finding my voice are two of my favorite things about blogging, as well! After all, I got to meet the fabulous Jelly Jules in person! Woo-hoo! I still can’t believe I have now personally met three of my blog buddies…very cool.

I like this one, but I’m too indifferent about blogging right now to do it myself. I love the friends I’ve made and love hearing about the ones I already had in real life. I don’t think you are a hypocrite at all. This is about you. One day you feel it, the next you don’t. That’s just be real, baby. 🙂

That’s cool that you found unrelaxed. He writes about some very interesting things and he’s really uber bookish, like you. You have a great blog, even when you’re feeling blah.

Heidi called me ‘uber-bookish’! That’s what I needed to hear…Thank’s for the link, though (as I confessed on my original) I shamelessly adapted a post by the forgiving Yogamum. I also avoid work on my blog, though I’ve found that I’ve been writing another one on work issues under my real name. Love the St Augustine graphic.
