Anatomy of a Wedding Shower

MoonyandRains011
It seems that a certain Miss Cherry is getting married in a few short weeks, and as her de facto maid of honor type person, I decided to have a wedding shower for her today. Yay! So, let’s see, what do we need…

Guests…check! We’ve invited family and friends to come and take it easy, have some snacks and drinks, get to know each other, and shower her with lovely gifts.

Gifts….check! Including several big and heavy ones sent by far away family who couldn’t be here, and I’ve been dying to tell her that they’re here, but I would prefer for her to be surprised…

Food…check! It’s an afternoon shower, so it’s not a meal so much as scoobie-snacks…here’s the menu:

Turkey Tea Sandwiches – I just added these to the menu, because I brought them to a tea party a few weeks ago, and they were SUCH a hit.

Prosciutto and cantaloupe – This would be even better if it were August, when cantaloupe is really ripe and yummy, but it will still be good. And look, I learned something by posting this trivial detail…how to spell both prosciutto and cantaloupe. Yay me!

Goat Cheese Toasts – I saw Giada make this awhile ago on the Food Network, and it screamed Cherry to me. Cherry loves things with warm goat cheese. So does Maya, so I’d better make plenty. 😉

Cheese and fruit platter – Who doesn’t love cheese? Not us, we love cheese. So our friend Mary will be bringing lovely cheeses and fruits. However, last weekend we had the BEST strawberries from a fruit stand out near Discovery Bay, so I’m totally not buying any strawberries at the grocery store. I’m getting them at the farmers market this morning.

Onion Dip – Liz’s husband, Ben, makes an AWESOME onion dip. I thought it was the Barefoot Contessa recipe, but it turns out it’s Martha Stewart. Who knew?

Coconut Cupcakes – These are Barefoot Contessa, and Liz does an AWESOME job with them, so she’s in charge. Mmmm.

Iced Tea – I have some yummy Tazo Tea, Wild Sweet Orange, that seems like it would make a yummy iced version. So we’ll have that as one drink option.

Lemonaid – Even though it’s been kind of chilly here for June so far, we’re pretending like it’s hot, and serving hot weather beverages.

Wine – A couple of guests are bringing Cherry’s favorite Chardonnay, so we’ll have a few bottles of that to pass around, too.

I think that’s it…what else could I use? Oh, I know! A helper! Maya is going to help me with the food and set up, and be my cohostess this afternoon. Fun! Maybe you’ll get lucky, and there will be a few pictures on Monday or so…if Cherry ever posts a new post on her blog ever again. If not, I’ll put something up here, K? 😉

Wow! Cherry is one lucky woman to have you as a friend anchoring this whole wonderful send-off into marital bliss! I love those invitations – just beautiful – sounds like a can’t miss party!

So p.s. – how did it go?!

It was lovely and fun, W, thanks for asking. 🙂 Maya ended up spending some time with video games and computer, some time with her book, not so much time helping out…but that was fine. Liz and Mary brought lots of yummys, and Cherry’s friends are all wonderful, so it was a lovely day. 🙂 I forgot to pull out my camera though, so really, I suck.

What a lovely event, J! Everything sounds perfect! Cherry is truly blessed to have you as a maid of honor! I was also lucky to have a wonderful maid of honor at my wedding. Every bride needs the right person to stand by her, be there for her, help her out, wipe the tears (of happiness, right?), calm her down should emotions get crazy (trust me…there was a brief moment where I was Bridezilla and nearly bit off my mom’s and her sisters’ heads off). Of course, this person is the maid of honor, but the groom assumes that role after the wedding! LOL!

Congrats to Cherry! May your wedding day be the most wonderful and memorable day ever!

    Hi J!
Thank you so much for a lovely, lovely day!

Everything was so wonderful and TASTY too! And getting to see some friends who I don’t get to see very often was a nice bonus.
