For Michelle…

Michelle, over at Scribbit, did a pretty cool Thursday 13 today. She listed what she believes are the 13 best remakes of all time. Her criteria were that they had to be at least as good, if not better than, the original. She had some pretty groovy songs included , like “American Woman”, the Lenny Kravitz version, and one of my all time favorites, the Depeche Mode version of “Route 66”. In the comments, I mentioned that one of the most interesting remakes I’ve heard is the Scissor Sisters version of “Comfortably Numb”. She mentioned that she wasn’t able to listen to enough of the song on the free iTunes taste to know whether she liked it or not. So, Michelle, I’ve got it here for you. For those of you who deeply love “The Wall”, and remember listening to that most depressingly genius album, this one might just make your ears bleed. Imagine Pink Floyd as performed by The Bee Gees, circa 1978., and that’s what you have HERE. (click to listen!)

I must confess, the first time I heard it, I was properly horrified. Ever since, though, it just makes me want to dance cheesy disco moves.

BTW, my beloved Py did a great Mix Six he titled “Cover Me” last November, full of cool remakes/covers, so go check it out and enjoy!

You know if I didn’t hear the title in there I don’t know that I’d even recognize this! As much as I like their other song, I don’t know that I like this one better than Pink Floyd’s, but then there is a lot of memories with the original. I love being able to hear it all, thanks!

It does make you want to bounce around doesn’t it? Suddenly I’m singing falsetto and tossing my hair around. . . .

It also reminds me of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s Relax when he sings “relax” it’s almost like he’s trying to reference that song too.

I have many of them. The one that Hello Melissa just mentioned and the remake that Faith No More did of the Commodores song….”I’m easy like Sunday morning.” The remake of “American Woman” by, Lenny Baby, and the remake U2 did of Jimmy Hendrick’s “Watchtower.”

Michelle, I’m with you…I don’t think this one is BETTER, but they so clearly took the song and made it their own, and it’s a lot of fun to listen to. 🙂

Beenzzz, too bad you’re not a fan of Battlestar Galactica…they had ‘All Along the Watchtower’ in the season finale, which has us all wondering, wondering, wondering…I looked on Wikipedia, and boy, that song has been covered a TON of times…check it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Along_the_Watchtower
