Thursday Quiz

OK, because I am driving on a fieldtrip today, and don’t have much time, here you go…. a quiz…

What, in your opinion, is the dumbest movie EVER, and I’m mostly hoping for detailed answers to WHY, in option D.

A. Cocktail – my reasoning, because any film with a justification for infidelity like “when a man dares you, you can’t say no” (or whatever the actual quote is) is a DUMB film.

B. Showgirls – I’ve never actually SEEN this one, but I’ve heard it’s TERRIBLE…almost, “So bad, it’s good”.

C. Boxing Helena – Julian Sands was actually pretty groovy in “A Room With A View”, but in this film you thought, OH MY GOD, WHY AM I WATCHING THIS????  I gained a newfound respect for Kim Bassinger when she was willing to lose a crapload of money for getting the hell out of this movie, after agreeing to be in it.  If I had made that mistake, I would pay whatever it took to get out, too.

D. Other.  Here’s your chance…the worst film you ever saw…maybe it’s CRASH, not the new one, but the one from several years ago, with James Spader (Sorry James, I don’t mean to diss you…you played one hell of a dissafected 40 year old in “Pretty In Pink”, and you were awesome in “Sex, Lies, and Videotape”, but two films in this list?  That’s not good.)  Or it could be Kalifornia (Sorry David, you know I love you, but OH.MY.GoD.) Or, it could me your own favorite, movie you wish you had NEVER SEEN.  GO!

I’ve seen parts of “Cocktail” and all of “Boxing Helena” and I have to say that both caused me to lose important moments of my life while doing so. And brain cells died. “Eyes Wide Shut” was idiotic as well.

What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, The Life Aquatica With Steve Zissou, Moulin Rouge, Napoleon Dynamite, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It’s not my hubby’s entire Netflix list but close.

Out of your 3, I’ve only seen Showgirls. And yes, its bad, but yea in one of those car wreck kinda ways.

I just checked out our netflix rating history and our bottom 3 are:
    Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
    Party Monster
    A Prairie Home Companion

My vote is for Boxing Helena. What a POS. Jennifer Lynch would have never gotten the green light if she wasn’t David Lynch’s daughter.

    God that movie was horrible!

Boxing Helena was very dumb. I can’t believe I watched the whole thing. I also thought Cocktail and Jerry McGuire sucked Tom’s balls. Hmmm worst movie ever.

    Dead Ringers (Jeremy Irons)
    Bad Santa
    Very Bad Things

sorry, not going into too much detail

They’re all pretty gaggy, but I LIKE Kalifornia because Brad and Juliette are actually very good in their characters. I never really cared for DD. Then again, I tend to like warped kind of things… I think the worst movie I ever saw would definitely have to be “Ishtar” or maybe “Havanna”. Poor Julian just kind of went to hell after ARWAV. Remember Warlock?

I have caught peices of bad movies. Cause I never have the patience to sit and watch them through, so therefore never remember the titles. It seems like every single horror movie made today is really bad. Just blood, gutts and a whole lot of screaming. At late thought I can say there are only less than a hand full of good movies out there. The rest are really terrible.

  • Maya's Granny

In the hay day of the spaghetti westerns (A Fistful of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly) someone put out a rip off copying them with an actor named Cliff Westwood. All I remember is that he looked sweaty and rancid, the acting was ghastly, and the story incoherent. Since I went with my Eastwood fan girl friends, we poked each other, rolled our eyes, groaned, and carried on and would have been ejected from the theater except that everyone else was doing the same.

I think Showgirls is the tackiest movie, but Cocktail is eye-rolling bad. Never bothered seeing Boxing Helena cause I heard such grave news about it. The old “Crash” is something I would never see again – because it just STICKS to your head. I have to shake off the ibby-jibbies everytime I think of that movie.

  • Black Belt Mama

I can’t remember the name of it, but my sister once made me suffer through a movie about the Westminster dog show. It was horrible. That, and her boyfriend recently recommended a horrible alien movie. I can’t remember the name of that one either.

I agree, Cocktail and Showgirls were horrible. I couldnt even watch more than like 20 minutes of each. I tried going back to finish it but I just couldnt. As for Boxing Helena, I havent seen it. But I dont think I will see it if you hate it so. And for the worst movie, I agree, Crash sucked. I cant see how they got awards, GRRRRRRR.
