Lame Meme

OK, I got nothing today. It’s Monday, after all, and besides that, my Brother and my SIL are coming to visit! YAY! They live in Alaska, and don’t get down this way as often as we would like. And us up there? We went in ’99, but haven’t gone back since. Dang it all. Stupid poverty. πŸ˜‰ Anyway, since I need to get all of my WORK work done early, plus wash the sheets on the bed where they’ll be sleeping, and swiffer the floors, I’m going to keep this quick and easy today, OK? This will be a lame meme about your favorite foods, in different categories. I figure, hey, everyone eats, right? So everyone has opinions on this stuff. Here goes.

1. Favorite Breakfast
One of the many varieties of Huevos Rancheros. Mmm. Had one last weekend with beans and beef, too, so it wasn’t really Huevos Rancheros, but I think of it as being all in the same family.

2. Favorite Junk Food Breakfast
This is a tie for me, between Carls Jr. Breakfast Burrito (mmmm) and the Egg Mitt Bagel from Noahs.

3. Favorite Breakfast Cereal
Cheerios are good with fruit, but if I’m going to be completely honest here, it’s Frosted Flakes. I don’t buy them, because they’re crap. But boy, they’re good.

4. Favorite Lunch at Home
Grilled Cheese and fruit while watching “What Not To Wear”. Perfect.

5. Favorite Fast Food Lunch
I’m horrified to admit this, but sometimes, I just crave a cheeseburger and fries from McDonalds. I know, there are MUCH better burgers out there. But sometimes, I just want that crappy flavor. I can’t help it.

6. Favorite Lunch at a Restaurant
Hmmm. I really like the BLT at our local cafe. But they’re cheap with the side dishes. Fries or fruit are extra. πŸ™

7. Favorite Fancier Lunch at a Restaurant
There’s a place near us called Pasta Primavera, and they have a tasty pasta which is bow tie pasta, spinach, chicken, Gorgonzola cream sauce, and fresh tomatoes. Give me that and a glass of wine, and I’m a happy camper. (When the heck was the last time you heard that expression, happy camper? What is this, 1985? GEEZ!)

8. Favorite Really Fancy Lunch at a Restaurant
Ted took me to a place in Walnut Creek called Va Di Vie, which has very yummy food, and lots of yummy wine. We ate tuna tartare and many other yummies that I can’t remember, drank a variety of wines (they had samplings there that were fun), and then we walked around the fancy outdoor mall….I fell in love with a diamond ring at the Movado store, and I’m not really into diamonds…must have been the wine talking.

9. Favorite Home Cooked Meal
If I’m cooking, it’s a pasta we have quite often (maybe too often for Ted and Maya, not quite often enough for me) with rotelli pasta, sun dried tomatoes, chicken (maybe), broccolini, cherry tomatoes, thyme, and lots of good quality parmesan. Love it.

If Ted’s cooking, it’s lamb curry, rice, roti, and pumpkin. I think we can all agree that we don’t have that as often as we would like. But it’s a LOT of work.

10. Favorite Dinner at a NICE Restaurant
Aside from Laperouse in Paris, which is a bit out of our range, or Striped Bass in Philly, also really far away, I’m going to say I like Foreign Cinema an awful lot. It’s a cool place in San Francisco we’ve been to twice, and both times, loved it. Runners up would be Zax Tavern, La Folie, and Thanh Long. The crab at Thanh Long is to die for, but the price is so high that it’s hard to get past that.

11. Favorite Fast Food Dinner
Ummm…The burgers at Mel’s in Walnut Creek are pretty darned good. Also the pizza at Melos in Pleasant Hill. I know, most of you aren’t from this area, so you don’t care about this. I guess I should have stuck to more common places or dishes. Oh well, my meme, my opinions. πŸ˜‰

12. Favorite Junk Food Snack
I’m going to have to shock you all and say Cheetos and a Diet Coke. YUM. Boy, that’s good crap. The downside is the orange keyboard if you’re on the keyboard while you’re eating them.

13. Favorite Candy Bar
This isn’t a Thursday Thirteen, but since Halloween is tomorrow, I can’t help but think of candy. My favorite candy would have to be Red Vines. I can eat a box in about 10 minutes flat. It’s not pretty. I also really like snickers, big hunk, recees, and payday. Like that new payday, with the chocolate on it, too. Mmmm. Oh, and peanut M&Ms. I’m not much of a candy eater, so I don’t have it often. But when I do, these are the ones I like.

OK, that’s enough time wasted. Time to get the floors clean, kid to school, dog walked, sheets washed, WORK done, shower taken, dressed (really, NOT in this order, I swear), and so on. Looking forward to the family visit. Might or might not post tomorrow, depending…

Happy Monday!
