New Digs

Welcome to my new home. I still have some moving in to do…I’m going to try to bring over my HaloScan comments (maybe…that seems kind of daunting, actually), and then I have to go through my entire blog, post by post, categorize them, and clean up any broken pictures, that kind of thing. But I kind of thought, I would rather just move over, so I can get started.

If you’re wondering WHY I moved, it was a combination of things. Blogger has a lot of problems, and I’m hoping to have better luck on my own domain here. Blogger beta has categories, but I haven’t tried it yet, so I don’t know how well it works. Ted moved the other day, and has been giving me peer pressure. I started blogging due to peer pressure (you know who you are!), so you know what a lemming I am. So, what the heck, let’s give this a try, huh? All of the old posts are here, they just need to be ‘unpacked’.
One of the reasons that Ted gave me for moving my blog over to our own server is that I can have music on my blog, like he does. That’s not nearly as important to me as it is to him, but since it’s available, I thought I would give you all the pleasure of hearing some beautiful music.

Way back in 1992, Ted brought home an album by Sheila Chandra, Weaving My Ancestors Voices. Some of the music is what she calls ‘spoken percussion’, and it’s pretty interesting to hear, but not what I would call ‘pretty’. The best thing about it was that George H. W. Bush was president back then, and Ted did a pretty funny impression of him doing the percussion songs.

My favorite three songs on the album are very different from the spoken percussion. Click the song title to listen to the song. πŸ™‚

Dhyana and Donalogue is a 1,000 year old Irish ballad, woven with Muslim style vocals. Completely unaccompanied, her voice is amazing. Amazing. I love this song.

The second song I really like, though not quite as much, is the more well known Ever so Lonely/Eyes/Ocean. This is taken from her days with Monsoon. Give it a listen. You can hear that early 90s sound in there a bit, and again, her voice is the prettiest instrument around.

The third song I really like is called Om Namaha Shiva, and it’s an ancient Hindu chant, set to a new melody. Very nice.

I hope you enjoy these songs, and that you’ll enjoy the new location. πŸ™‚ I know some folks were having problems with the old site…any problems loading this page?

UPDATE: One person reported having problems loading this page. Anyone else? Ally Bean has had trouble loading my old page as well, and I’m not sure why. The two are barely related, meaning they live on different servers, etc., so I’m not sure what the problem could be. Frustrating, because I can’t recreate it.

Also, what kind of nimrod goes live with a new webpage, and doesn’t test their comments first? Answer…me. The embarassing thing is that I work in I.T. That’s just pathetic. Anyway, please click the links and hear the pretty music. πŸ™‚
