April Come She Will

April come she will
When streams are ripe and swelled with rain;
May, she will stay,
Resting in my arms again

June, she’ll change her tune,
In restless walks she’ll prowl the night;
July, she will fly
And give no warning to her flight.

August, die she must,
The autumn winds blow chilly and cold;
September I’ll remember.
A love once new has now grown old.

~Simon & Garfunkel, April Come She Will.  Listen. God, I really do love them, and the poetry of their lyrics.

It’s April already…how did that happen?  Not sure.  But April makes me think of this song, and of my mom, since her birthday is the 23rd.

Also, Genevieve’s birthday is today.  Happy Birthday Genevieve!  What do you get a 12 year old blind dog for her birthday?  A doggie bagel from Noah’s, and some milk in her dish to help her choke down all of the old dog meds she is on.  Poor old dog.  She’s doing well, though, and seems happy enough with her milk and bagel.

Look at these plants…the heather (purple plant in back) and I don’t know what (orange plant in front) were gifts to me from two separate sweet women on my Meals on Wheels route.  Gorgeous, aren’t they?  They help remind me of why I do this.  Because to be honest, the week that I found out one of my old ladies was probably being robbed WHILE I WAS DROPPING OFF HER FOOD (she is very old, doesn’t see well, doesn’t speak English, doesn’t get around easily, etc.) made me wonder what this was all about.  Back on track.  The plant on the right is my latest avocado plant.  I sure love growing them.

Today is Maya’s cheerleading tryouts.  Being a cheerleader is not something I ever considered…I don’t have that outgoing, excited about the team personality it takes.  But I’ve seen Maya with her volleyball team, and she does.  She wants to root on the team, wish them well, and be a real member of that group. And it’s hard work, very athletic. I’m impressed with how much work goes into it.  Keep your fingers crossed that her tryouts go well and she gets picked for the team.  She’ll find out tomorrow afternoon.
UPDATE: She made the team! Yay Maya! Very exciting news.

Easter is coming up.  Today is Maundy Thursday, and today I discovered that in Germany and Austria, they celebrate Grün Donnerstag, which is a celebration of Green, I guess.  People eat a lot of veggies during Lent, and on Grün Donnerstag, you’re supposed to eat spinach.  Look at this awesome picture for a sample.  We’re going to Ted’s parents’ house for Easter Brunch.  I’m either bringing Chili Rellanoes or Savory Unicorn and Heirloom Tomato Bruschetta. I’m thinking that since it’s only April, it’s probably too early in the year for heirloom tomatoes, so it’ll probably end up being the Rellanoes.  Too bad.  I do so want to find a world of bewilderment in every bite.

Last week I picked up some little green sticks that promised to turn into daffodils.  I took a picture of them the second day, when they were considering blooming.  I was going to take a picture of them all bloomed and springtimeish, but I forgot.  I suck at this blogging thing lately, huh?

This has been a crazy busy week, what with Maya’s cheerleading tryout clinics, trying to fix or replace her cell phone, which fell and broke (yet was still under contract), taking her to math tutoring, etc. Now I know why my mom strictly refused to become a taxi. Then again, I didn’t do any after school activities, and I would have liked to. So I’ll do some taxiing for Maya. Nonetheless, we’re all looking forward to Spring Break next week. Nice to chill out for a change.

Hope you’re well. Happy Easter, Passover, etc. Happy Spring.

    Thanks, Jules! Happy Easter to you, too. It is beautiful here in Charleston. Very spring-like weather, and I’m just lovin’ it! If you make the rellenos, take pictures! I wanna see.

    I’m still working of the calories from the ones I ate at Hola’s! 🙂 MMMMMmmmm.

    Starshine, they’re not like the ones that we had at Hola’s. If you click the link, you’ll see a picture from when I made them last year. It’s more like a quiche, I guess, with egg and cheese and some diced chilis thrown in. Yummy though.

    We are well, really. That Simon and Garfunkel song reminds me of my first serious girlfriend. I was 18 and she was 23. Doomed.
    I hope she loves the cheerleading – it’s an alien culture to me too, though I now share an office with an ex-cheerleader (karma of some kind, I’m sure).

    Had to come visit here after the Facebook visit. Happy belated birthday to Gen. Ab & Em are one year behind her as they turn 11 this year.
