A Week of Breakfasts

Some people eat the same thing for breakfast every day. I am not one of those people. I like some variety. I don’t usually eat 7 different breakfasts in one week, but this week I did and I documented it for you. Working from home means that I have freedom in when I eat. Generally I get up, have tea and play my word games, do weights and yoga, go for a walk, sign in for my daily 8am meeting, and eat breakfast whenever I’m hungry.

Saturday ~ Smoothie day. I don’t want you to think that I put any of these pills in my smoothie. I was thinking about another post about supplements when I took this picture. The smoothie is 1 banana, some greens, plain yogurt, collagen powder, creatine powder, OJ, and frozen berries.

Sunday ~ Eggs scrambled with whatever veg I could find. In this case it was onion, cherry tomatoes, and avocado, with toast and berries on the side. We got these plates as a wedding gift in 1993. I still like them, but they are definitely dated.

Monday ~ Toast with peanut butter and berries. I usually eat this a couple of days a week. I’m picky about my ingredients, so this is the good bread and the good peanut butter. And yesterday’s eggs were the good eggs.

Tuesday ~ I sautéed some kale, spinach, and chard, then a slice of tomato, then fried an egg. Delicious. I’m out of the good bread, this is plain whole wheat from the grocery store and it’s a little depressing. Actually, with eggs I generally like sourdough toast, but we were out of that as well.

Wednesday ~ I could have made this prettier, for sure. It’s cream of barley cereal (kind of like cream of wheat, but made with barley. I like the ingredient list – barley. I start by toasting the cereal in a bit of butter, then I add water. I cook a sliced banana in with it, then add some pecans, dried cranberries, and fresh blueberries and raspberries. I usually add a swirl of jam, but because of the cranberries, I felt like it was sweet enough. I should have added the nuts and berries at the end rather than stirring them in, for purely aesthetic reasons. Delicious and filling nonetheless.

Thursday ~ Avocado toast, but I made it with homemade guacamole because we were out of avocados. Um, this was the best avocado toast ever (well, almost…would have been better on the good bread) and I am 100% having guacamole toast in the future. I sprinkled the guacamole with a bit of chili flakes, then added tomato, then sprinkled a bit of kosher salt and lemon pepper on top.

Friday ~ Omelette, toast, and fruit. I had to take the car in to have the tires rotated, and there’s a place across the street with tasty scones, and I was tempted to get a cranberry orange scone and a latte. But I wanted protein to go with my strength and yoga workout, so I made myself eggs. The omelette has sautéed green onions, kale, spinach, chard, and tomatoes. I threw in the last of the guacamole, which was delicious. The tomatoes were a mistake though. They were leftovers from tacos on Monday, and they were past their prime and tasted gross. Luckily I just took them out. Oh, I also put some Parmesan and chives in there. This was my last mediocre toast for a while, I finally got more of the good bread. Thank god this long nightmare is over.

All looks so delish!! I haven’t been eating breakfast for a couple of years (since Covid times I guess, I gained weight and started to intermittent fast) . Occasionally have oatmeal only if my husband makes it – or omelette for brunch.
Those plates lol -I have floral design plates from the same year -was that era ??.

I no longer have breakfast as part of my weight loss regime. Unless we go out for breakfast, which is a fave activity. But that is seldom and closer to lunch time. Some of yours look very tasty and inviting.

You eat very nice breakfasts. I don’t do eggs–they bother my stomach for some reason–but yours look so good.
My go-to breakfast/brunch meal for hotter months is Greek nonfat yoghurt with fruit (usually black- or raspberries), raw rolled oats, and a drizzle of honey. During the colder months, it’s Dave’s Killer Bread toast with peanut butter and the fruit on top. I did notice that I dropped weight as soon as I gave up peanut butter, however, so I may be rethinking my toast game.

I could eat avocado and tomato toast for every single meal. If I were single, I probably would.

And really good bread is a joy, no matter the cost.

Ugh on not being able to eat eggs, I love eggs!

Sigh. Giving up peanut butter is sad, right? So tasty, and your toast/pb/fruit sounds a lot like mine. I also sometimes (but not often) have yogurt and fruit, though instead of honey I swirl in a bit of jam.

Yeah, that avocado toast was really good. I’ll be making that again for sure.

Woot for 7 different breakfasts in 7 days! Now that you mention it, it’s been a long time since I’ve had avocado toast.

I usually trend toward eggy things, but last year I started making oatmeal every once in a while.

I have Greek yogurt with a little fruit and a sprinkle of granola Mondays and Tuesdays, chia pudding with a little fruit and some nuts on Wednesdays and Thursday, and eggs with vegetarian breakfast meats and fruit Fridays and Sundays, Saturday the same but with high-protein oatmeal, too. I like having some variety but not having too think too hard about it because there’s a schedule.

Great variety! I’m quite boring for breakfast, oatmeal if I’m home. If not, I’ll eat whatever is available like yesterday at the hotel, fruit toast, cake.

” Thank god this long nightmare is over.’ hahahahhahaha!
I am definitely not one of those “same thing every day” breakfast people. It’s not so much that I want the variety, it’s just that there’s a lot going on in the morning, and sometimes I need something quick and sometimes I can take time to cook something.
i once read somewhere that the ideal breakfast is fibre + protein somehow. So I try to aim for that in breakfast. Usually it’s Greek Yogurt with nuts and berries, or oatmeal with nuts and berries. Sometimes I’ll do oatmeal with soy sauce and a boiled egg. I like to make a big batch of soft-ish cooked eggs at the beginning of the week and eat them for breakfast. Eggs are so amazing!
If I’m in a rush, I’ll make myself a peanut butter and banana sandwich to eat in the car.
And some days, i just eat the leftover soggy granola or toast that the kids don’t finish.

Thank you for laughing at my bread joke!

Yeah, daily life affects what one can do for breakfast. Back when my daughter was young, it was mostly cereal. And honestly, I mostly ate it at work. Things have calmed down a lot as my daughter has grown up.

All these are great!! So interesting to get a glimpse into other people’s lives.
At this stage in my life my breakfast is fast. I like hard boiled eggs, bagels, and yoghurts. Maybe some nuts and berries. Bananas.
Our mornings can be hecktic and I just don’t have time to use a frying pan. Sounds stupid but it’s true.

Wow! I bow down to you in admiration. If I’m at home, I don’t deviate from my breakfast – Greek yoguar with homemade granola, fruit, and a cup of tea. This looks delicious, but exhausting!

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and can be eaten at any time. 6am, 10am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm, etc. I love breakfast foods. Your breakfast sounds delicious, I love yogurt fruit and granola.
