Local Boy Makes Good
Hats off today to a local hero, Chelsey B. “Sully” Sullenberger III, captain of the airplane that suffered an emergency landing in the Hudson River today. “Sully” made sure all passengers and crew were off of the plane, walking up and down the aisles twice in a sinking airplane before evacuating himself. (I say local, because he’s a resident of Danville, CA, our neighbor to the south, and the town in which Ted grew up.)
What wonderful news, to hear that everyone behaved decently and kindly, and that everyone survived. Thank you to the captain, the crew, and indeed to the passengers who helped keep things calm in the face of panic. Well done.

Yes he is certainly a hero to us! Had no idea he was a local to your area? I’ve been wondering if any of those passengers on the plane were local to my hometown? Charlotte is about a 4 hour drive from here.
I’m sure he saved many of our North Carolinians!
I also heard someone mention that because it was such a short east coast flight, that the fuel tanks wouldn’t be topped off full, and that meant that there was plenty of air in the fuel tanks to help it float in the water as long as it did.
Hope somebody doesn’t find a way to blame the bird strike on “Bush”!!!LOL!!!!!

Isn’t it amazing? I don’t think our (NY Metro) local news covered anything ELSE last night. He did an amazing job, bringing that plane down!

What a story. I just read a post from another blogger I follow. Her husband and BIL were on the plane. I’m still trying to get in touch with my friend who works with USAirways to see if she was on that flight.

I have to say that hearing this story and the courage and right-on instincts of this pilot—well, I’ve been on a high all day. After so much bad news, job loss, foreclosures, financial crisis—it is heartwarming to know that there are still miracles happening.

On the news they said Obama personally invited the pilot and his family to the inauguration. I bet he thought that would never happen to him, two miracles in a week.
