Mostly Wordless Wednesday

Pictures from the Little Free Libraries that I pass on my walks. The picture at the top of the post is of the children’s garden in a nearby park, which is right next to one of the LFL.

I am enjoying using them for part of my decluttering project, though I will donate some to our library as well. Do you have many Little Free Libraries near you? Do you enjoy straightening them out and making them look better? Do you make deposits and withdrawals?

There are three Little Frees on my daily walking route. I’ve made both deposits and withdrawals, although my withdrawals have been solely children’s books for Theo to keep at Nana and Pa’s house. I’ve resisted the urge to tidy them up because I don’t want to seem … oh, I don’t know, like a fussy old lady. Plus, I like to try and maintain a good pace when I walk.

A Story Walk sounds delightful! Does the story ever change?

Alas, the sign is new, I have no idea about the story walk! I just thought it was pretty.

If I’m alone I will generally straighten the LFL, but if others are with me I just think about doing it and pass on by.

I always enjoy looking to see what’s in the LFL. To date I’ve taken one book, and I’ve made a few deposits. I don’t buy a lot of books, and even fewer physical books, but when I do end up with a book that I don’t need it either goes to a LFL or the drop box for our library book sales.

I’ve made a couple of withdrawals, though now I’m trying to remember if I’ve actually READ any of them…

We have about a dozen little libaries in our local area. I tend to be a taker! Sometimes I do rearrange the books to make them more aesthetically pleasing, but I should do it more often as I do love bringing order from chaos and they can get a bit chaotic…

I’m all about donating to Free Little Libraries. It’s one of the reason I buy paper books so that I can pass them on to others. It makes me happy to share.

There is a LFL across the street from us but it has a lot of garbage in it unfortunately. My MIL has a great one by her house. She’s gotten so many books for the boys from it!

    • J

I’m glad there is one by your MILs house! I love being in an unknown (to me) neighborhood and finding a LFL.

    • J

Do you peek to see what they have? Some seem to be directed more toward kids, others adults, some are useless, some are amazing.

    • J

Interesting…I think of the suburbs as where most of them are! We are a suburb and there are so many close to us. I just read your comment more closely…you’re not saying being suburban is the issue, just that there aren’t any nearby. I jumped to conclusions.

I love these! I don’t have any where I live, we are a weird little closed development of not too many houses. Which makes it great for Halloween but not too great for stuff like this. But somebody should probably put one up!

    • J

GINA!!!! Wow, how fun to see your little picture pop up! I hope you’re well. Are you blogging again? I’m popping over to see right now!

I freaking love Little Free Libraries. Both my daughter and I have had freaky good luck with finding books we really want to read or would like to round out a collection, both here and where she goes to university. I have to go a bit out of my way to visit them here, but she has many within close walking distance. And I always rearrange them if they’re messy – I do the same in bookstores. Probably a result of working in bookstores and forever having to tidy up bookshelves (my favourite part of the job, really).

    • J

Oh gosh, I don’t think I’ve ever found a book I was hoping to read, that’s a real find!

I’m glad you rearrange the books as well.

  • Melissa

We have a few free little libraries in our area, but I have never borrowed a book from one, although I have put some books in. I probably need to pay more attention to what is in them

  • Tamara

Love these, they are so cute! In my city there are a number of phone booths converted into libraries. Maybe they are BFLs? I have taken a few books and actually read them but also a few that I didn’t.

We have one! I asked for it as a birthday present 15 (?) years ago.

It didn’t get used much at our old place, but at our current place, it gets used all the time–people leave such great books and I’ll buy copies of books I love at thrift stores to leave in there.

I loved your LFL photo where they encouraged people to share their writing :)!

    • J

Oh, you have one in front of your house? Somehow that is not surprising, but it is definitely delightful.

I love the little free libraries! When I was decluttering, I tried to use them but so many of them were full already! I have probably 10 or 20 within a half mile or so of me and I went to several of them with no luck! I ended up just giving the books to Salvation Army. How sad is that?

    • J

Well, hopefully the Salvation Army passed them on, I don’t think it’s sad at all. I tend to donate books to our library for their book sales, but on a ‘one thing a day’ philosophy, it’s kind of easier to donate them more peace meal instead of a big box like we give to the library.

Oh my gosh… so many cte little libares.
We jave one big cupboard at church. Then they installed one at the grocery store. And then there is an old phone booth one town over where I can walk too. Its been a while since I checked that one. Maybe its a project for next weekend.
