The Wedding People

The Wedding People ~ Alison Espach

A suicidal woman (Phoebe) checks in to a lovely resort hotel determined to have a wonderful meal in the beautiful dress she bought but has never had occasion to wear, before ODing on feline pain medication. She is mistaken for a wedding guest at a destination wedding, a wedding that is going to take a week and has booked the rest of the hotel. She ends up talking to the bride (Lila), who asks her which family she is with, and Phoebe tells Lila that no, she is not here for the wedding. She is here to kill herself.

I found this book to be completely predictable and yet very enjoyable. Like any good rom-com, I knew what was coming, and I was there to see how we get from point a to point b. I won’t say any more, except that it was a fun read with some tender depth included. Recommended.

What’s with all the book reviews? I’m participating in NaBloPoMo this month, writing a post a day. I decided that I would write about the books that I have read this year. For more NaBloPoMo participants, check out San’s list.

EVERYBODY has liked this book, and I have a library hold on it. Last time I checked I was something like 350 in line, so I’ll be waiting for a while. But I’ll read it eventually.

I really loved this book and gave it 5 stars. It’s a lighter book but also had some heavier/thoughtful commentary around marriage/infertility/etc. It was just what I needed when I read it this summer.

Ok, what I got from this is that people can die from OD-ing on pet pain meds… how did I not make that connection earlier?! I have pet meds casually lying around in the guest bathroom and must go fix that right away!

I’m glad Phoebe does not die and finds love (I’m guessing)!

Oh, will you look at that, I’ve had this one on order at the library for ages and will probably end up buying the paperback to read it. A friend said she loved it and that it touched her. How funny everyone has heard something good and wants to read it.

OD on feline pain medication! LOL. But, then, hopefully there wasn’t a feline being abandoned, right? (Just tell me that no cats were harmed in this book.)
