3 Day Weekend…
It’s Monday afternoon, the weekend is almost over…why can’t every weekend be a three-day-er, I ask?
Friday was plumbing and the good news that said plumbing and wall destruction will be paid by the homeowners association. LOVELY! Knew there had to be some advantage to living in a condo…
Saturday was a 2-hour drive to Salinas, a chance to get to know my step-mom’s family a little better at her mom’s funeral service. The unexpected cozy feeling in my tummy when she introduced me, not as her step daughter, nor as Michael’s daughter, but just as, “My daughter”. These people were all her family, so they knew that she wasn’t my birth mother, had had no role in raising me as a child. It was a way of communicating love, and you know what? It did.
We watched ‘Sherrybaby”, which was pretty darned sad and depressing. Not your ‘feel good’ film in any way.
Sunday was sleeping in late, going out for an omelet for breakfast, finally buying a new stove (delivered in a few weeks, so not here yet), trying a new restaurant for dinner, lazing around.
Today so far is having the ceiling fixed where they had to cut a hole to access the pipes…walking the dog, helping Maya with her homework…missing three days of school, the homework adds up quickly, I’m very sorry to say. I hope she finishes soon, so we can watch Battlestar Galactica, and we also have to do some grocery shopping…
Not the most exciting weekend in the world (except for the stove), but really, an overall nice one. Maya’s all better, ready for school again tomorrow. Hope you had today off, and that you’re rested and ready for the week as well.

There you are! I was wondering where you were. I may not comment all the time, but a day without JellyJules is like a day without wine! Your other mom sounds like a very genuine person. What a nice feeling to catch, even under those circumstances. Have a great afternoon!

Can you even type the word “Salinas” without thinking of Steinbeck? It’s the total word-association thing with me.

Thanks for missing me, Heidi. 🙂
Michelle, it was hard, because we were RIGHT DOWN THE STREET from the Steinbeck center, and I just read East of Eden a month ago….but it wasn’t on the schedule…
Another time…stop there, then go visit Monterey, because there’s really not a lot to see in Salinas, but I LOVE Monterey.

Hi, J! I’m so glad that your Dad’s wife treated you with such kindness and love. That’s really wonderful. 🙂
So good that Maya’s back to normal. I hope she finishes the homework soon, so that there can be some quality family tv time!!!

What your step-mom did is great! It does give make you feel good, doesn’t it?
Your weekend sounds nice. I’m always sad when it’s over, but that means we have a short work week 😉
