Meme Monday

Just when you’re not sure what the heck you’re going to write about, along comes a pal like Theresa and tags you for a meme. WHEW!

1) What book are you reading right now? I just started Middlesex. Like, I’m only a few pages in. So far, I’m enjoying it.

2) What was the last book you read on a plane? Usually I save plane trips for my guilty pleasure, People Magazine. But flying from Anchorage to Oakland is a long flight, with a long layover in Seattle, so People doesn’t really cut it. So I read People first (with Tori Spelling on the front cover…I’m a sucker for any chance to read about 90210 alum!), and then read Plainsong on the next stretch.

3) What was the last book you read on a roadtrip? I don’t like to read in the car anymore. It makes me carsick. Part of getting old, I guess.

4) What is the most unusual place you found yourself reading? Is it unusual to read in the bathroom? No, I guess not. I sometimes read while I’m walking the dog. Not often, because usually I listen to my beloved iPod if I’m alone with the dog, but if I’m walking back from the library, I might read a bit when there’s a safe spot to do so. I’ve also been known to read in the elevator, but it’s been awhile on that one. I used to work on the 31st floor of a hotel, and would read on my way up or down.

5) What books would you take to keep you occupied on a two week vacation to the beach? Erm… probably it would depend on when the vacation occurred. I would probably just grab the next few books from my TBR pile, and try to read them, but get sucked into either magazines, dozing at the beach, or maybe a John Grisham novel. If I were leaving on a vacation today (yes, please!), I guess I would pick Purple Hibiscus, because I’ve been really looking forward to that one, and the next two books in the His Dark Materials trilogy, since I read the first one, and then got distracted away from the series.

Now for the tagging…Theresa tagged three folks, so that’s how many I’ll tag as well. For this one, I’m going to tag:
Gina – I wonder what she’s reading right now?
Nance – I wonder if she memes much?
Starshine – I wonder where’s the strangest place she’s read?
Anyone else who wants to play, go for it!

Oh, and I’m wearing green, so no pinching! (Except Py, of course, he can pinch if he wants to.. 😉 ) Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Ooh, reading memes are always fun. (Did you know I host a weekly one? http://www.btt2.wordpress.com )

But, um, I haven’t been on a plane since 1999. The only book I know for sure I read that trip was Richard Peck’s “London,” which was charming. The road-trip question, though, is easy. My last vacation was with my Mom, and we always take a book to read together–taking turns reading it outloud in the car, in the hotel room, while parked next to a park… whenever. Last year’s book was one of the Amelia Peabody books by Elizabeth Peters…

I once pulled out a book during an author’s reading. It was just so boring, and I couldn’t leave, so I just started a chapter in a book I was about a 1/4 of the way in.

You done good with this. Loved Middlesex. Loved it, even though I read the whole thing with a nursing/sleeping baby on my lap. Oh, and the second in the HDM trilogy was just so/so. The third is more than worth the wait. I think it’s a spirituality groundbreaker. I liked meming with you!

Oooh, I haven’t been tagged with anything for a while, I’ll probably do this tomorrow, which will definitely be some kind of record time for me.

    Wow,
yes I worked at Mr. Steak. I dont really know what I did to effect you that way other than being a typical self centered teenager. I apologize for whatever I did 25 years ago to upset you so. Hope all is well with you.

    reference point…

OK, this is totally irrelevant, but I just saw Steve Ding’s pic in today’s Chronicle….and I thought, I know that guy. Did a web search, and found your blog. If it’s the same Ding, and he LOOKS like he could be, I worked with him at Mr. Steak in Stockton, back in 1983/84. He was also into photography. He didn’t make this kind of money back then, I can tell you that much. Oh…he was a jerk then, too.
