Friday Five…Food Edition

1. Cute cake, huh? Laluna made one for Maya last year, with little tiny Oreos on it, which inspired me to put little cookies on the cake, rather than trying to make little flowers or leaves or something fancy. I almost bought a cake platter thingie to present it on, just so it would look nice for the blog. But I have no room in my tiny condo kitchen for a cake platter thingie, so even though the colors in our dish pattern totally don’t match the cake, just go with it, OK?

2. I made chocolate chip muffins (Betty Crocker, same as my cake…no recipe from me, follow the box recipe…omit hair) for Maya to take to school yesterday, and some extra for Ted to take to work. Apparently, I need to start cooking with a hair net, because there was hair in the muffins Ted took to work. I’m so grossed out and utterly embarrassed. Hair muffins. My trademark. Ugh.

3. My “boyfriend” is signing his cookbook in San Francisco tomorrow. I’m toying with the idea of going, because it would be pretty cool to have a signed cookbook and all, but I’m not sure I want to be in line with a bunch of other drooling women. I’ll let you know if I end up going. I’ve only been to one other book signing before, with Erin Brockovich, which was pretty cool, actually.

4. I made a lovely Potato Leek Soup last week, dedicated to me by Susan in Italy at the Porcini Chronicles. It was truly yummy.

5. Since Ted and Maya have a father/daughter dance to attend tomorrow night, and they both hate beets, which I adore…I’m making this roasted beet salad for Cherry and myself. Maybe we’ll have some leftover soup, too…who knows. Could be nice. 🙂

(OK, one last try to win an Amazon Gift Certificate via //engtech’s contest. Wish me luck!)

P.S., Maya took my semi-me looking cake, and made it totally HER by adding a lot more pink frosting. Gorgeous, huh?

    1. Love the cake– both versions of it are pretty. (I’m so diplomatic, aren’t I?)
    2. Chocolate chip muffins sound very tasty.
    3. I think it’s cool that you met Erin Brockovich.
    4. Any kind of potato soup is wonderful by me.
    5. Will try the beet salad.

Love the cake! What a great idea putting cookies on it for decoration 🙂

I love beets, Lew hates them…go figure.

I seriously think you should attend the book signing of your boyfriend 😉

    Have a great weekend!

I have an 11 year old son and a 9 year old daughter. Kids have no idea what a big deal their birthdays are to their parents. They think we’re doing EVERYTHING for them, and we kind of are, but we’re also having a celebration of the privilege of being their parents.

That is a gorgeous-looking cake!!! A very happy birthday, Maya, although I suspect I am a little late.

Sorry I haven’t been visiting as often J, but my blog’s been on hiatus!

Happy Birthday, Maya! I dream of Curtis Stone meeting me in the grocery store, but with my luck that would be the day I was wearing my painting clothes and was unshowered.
