1. Back in May & early June, Maya was swimming in the evenings, and I was taking walks in the open space near the pool. This is the view from the top of a hill…you can see the major protuberance in our area, Mt. Diablo, and then look down and you see the tiny pool where she’s taking lessons. Awesome. Swim team is going well. She just started at age 15, which is apparently UNHEARD of. She’s not as fast as the kids who’ve been swimming for 5 – 10 years, but she’s amazing and shaving many seconds off of her time at every meet. Awesome.
2. Another walk from the pool leads up into a wealthy neighborhood, with beautiful horses in a few of the front yards.
3. Avocado trees in my back yard. The one on the right is about 3 years old, and clearly not thriving. The one on the left is almost 2 years old, and bigger and heartier than the one on the right, but it’s not doing so well lately. Actually, it looks a bit like an avocado tree I had a few years ago, which was thriving, got about 5 feet tall, then croaked. Sigh.
4. Grilled bread salad with tomatoes and chicken. Good, but a bit soggy. I got the recipe from Mark Bittman, if you know who that is, though I added the chicken and arugula. It was maybe 95 degrees that day, so a salad was just what we needed. 5. Genevieve, hanging out and looking adorable. She’s a sweetheart. Now she’s starting to lose some fur around her collar area, and I’m wondering if maybe she has ‘alopecia X’, which isn’t uncommon in spitz breeds, and fits quite a few of the symptoms she’s had recently. We’re going to the vet in the morning to see what’s going on.
To this day, I cannot seem to properly propagate avocado! I was successful ONCE when I was a kid. The avocado tree was thriving, lush, and green. Then we moved and my mom chucked it. Since then, no avocado seed I’ve had has ever turned into a plant. I’m telling you, there have been hundreds of avocados (and LOTS of guacamole!!!) and no plants from the seeds! 🙁
