40 Years Ago Today

My mom wrote about the moon landing a couple of years ago, on another moon landing anniversary. I love her story about my Grandpa and his calling it “Wizard of Oz” to believe that man would ever go to the moon. And his graceful recovery for his pig-headedness, 40 years ago today. Wonderful pics! I was 4 when this happened, and have no memory of it. The first space mission I have a distinct memory of is the Apollo-Soyuz mission.

I remember people talking about it and watching other space missions on TV. Space travel has always fascinated me. My uncle down in the LA area worked on the Space Shuttles before he retired. My sister and I actually saw the Columbia go up from FL in April 1981. It was awesome! The earth shook and the windows rattled. Sure wish I could find my photos from that trip! She went to college at Melbourne and I was down visiting for my Spring Break. We planned it all out so we could go to watch the launch. 🙂

I remember watching it on our old black and white TV at 12 years old, and I remember your mom’s wonderful post on it and my stupid comment! Sorry about my lame comment Maya’s Granny!
