Monday Meme

I found this one via Crum’s blog…he comments over at Scribbit sometimes, and he often cracks me up, so I went and checked out his blog, and he came and checked out my blog, and there you go. The bloggy world. 🙂 He lives in Maine. I’ve never been to Maine, but I suspect they have blueberries as good as the ones in Fairbanks. Mmmm. Blueberries. OK, here’s the meme.

The Meme

1. Last Movie you Saw in a Theater:
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It was fun. But I must admit that I’m REALLY looking forward to next weekend, which is when Sex and the City comes out. Yay!

2. Favorite Board Game:
Erm…let me think. I like Parcheesi a lot, and also Jenga. Since Jenga isn’t really a board game, I’ll go with Parcheesi. Oh, I like Othello and Mastermind, too. 🙂

3. Favorite Smells:
There’s a mystery smell I smell every year. It’s a plant, and perhaps it’s honeysuckle. I don’t have a plant nearby, so it’s more like I’ll be walking along and I’ll smell it. I love it. I also love the smell of a good meal being prepared. Oh, and movie theater popcorn. I also like the smell of gin, though I don’t like the taste. The smell of the ocean may perhaps trump all of these, though. Love that crisp salty, semi fishy smell.

4. Favorite Sound:
Ted and Maya laughing at something, anything. The sound of the ocean, or even a stream, is nice. I like to listen to the birds in the trees, too.

5. Worst Feeling In The World:
Thus far in my life, it would be leaving Alaska with my mom still there, with a tube down her throat so she can’t talk. Or, perhaps, leaving her at an extended care facility when she’s doped up and confused about where she is and what she’s doing there. Not fun at all.

6. Favorite Fast Food Place:
If I’m going to be totally honest, I’ll say McDonalds. There’s something so yummy about their fries, that I have to have them once in awhile. However, when we go to Stockton, we sometimes go to Manny’s on the Miracle Mile, and get a totally awesome Avocado burger. Mmmm. Manny’s.

7. Finish This Statement. “If I Had A Lot Of Money I’d…”
1. Get my mom into a better situation, because truly, there are few problems that can’t be at least improved by throwing money at them. 2. Buy a bigger house. Where? I don’t know. But bigger. 3. Put aside money for Maya’s college education. 4. Take a long, long vacation. (We’re talking a LOT of money, right? So I don’t have to worry about work?) Then I’d figure out how to invest, so that there’s a combination of family, charity, and fun.

8. Do You Sleep With a Stuffed Animal?
Ted doesn’t like it when I call him that. 😉 If he’s not here for some reason, I will sometimes sleep with my Smokey Bear.

9. Storms-Cool Or Scary ?:
Cool but annoying. Why annoying, you ask? Because our dog gets so scared, she pees up the floor. Or goes into the closet to hide, and pees on my shoes. Nice.

10. Favorite drink:
Alcoholic: Chardonnay
Non-Alcoholic: Diet Coke

11. Finish This Statement, “If I Had The Time I Would …..”
Sleep later every morning, and maybe take horseback riding lessons.

12. If You Could Dye Your Hair Any Color, What Would Be Your Choice?
I CAN dye my hair any color I want, and I do, so this is an easy one. Blonde.

13. One Nice Thing About The Person Who Sent This To You:
I don’t know Crum very well, but he seems to be a pretty funny guy, and he likes to ride his bicycle. Those are both good things. Plus, I like to think that he likes blueberries. Maybe heated up and served over ice cream, which we sometimes had in Fairbanks.

14. What’s Under Your Bed?
All of the cold air when the a/c is on, since our stupid office/bedroom situation dictates that the bed be right over the vent. Stuff that won’t fit anywhere else in our crowded condo. One of Ted’s guitars. Not sure what else.

15. Would You Like To Be Born As Yourself Again?
What a Nietzschean question. I suppose. I mean, i’ve had a good life. But it would be nice if I could remember some of my mistakes and so on, for next time around. Then again, I might really screw things up by trying to second guess myself. So I don’t know.

16. Morning Person Or Night Owl?
I’m pretty adaptable, and can do either. I lean more towards mornings, though. Any time after 6ish works for me.

17. Over Easy Or Sunny Side Up?
Over easy. I like eggs cooked in black beans and salsa, too, ala Huevos Rancheros. Mmmm. Eggs.

18. Favorite Place To Relax:
At home, with a glass of wine. Or on the beach, with the sun beating down on me and the sound and smell of the ocean, offering to cool me off if I get too hot.

19, Favorite Pie:
Apple, with a crunchy topping. Yummy.

19. Favorite Ice Cream Flavor:
19 again? Hmmm. Well, i like good vanilla for on top of my apple pie, or I like Cherries Jubilee (ala Baskin Robbins) for a chocolate sundae.

20. Of all the people you tagged this to, who’s most likely to respond first?
I’m not tagging anyone. If you want to do it, go for it.

Hope you’re all having a relaxing Memorial Day, spending time doing what you enjoy doing, and having fun. Thank you to all of those Vets out there, both those who have died in the service of our country, and those luckier ones who have not. And thank you to the families who are left behind. Truly.

I do like blueberries. Especially the wild ones from on top of Raggedy Butt Mtn. We call it a mountain because it’s higher than a hill. I still have not found out just where a hill stops and a mountain begins here in Maine. It’s a safe bet all these East coast bumps were mountains at one point in their lives. So calling them mountains is ok I guess. Even geological formations shrink and shrivel with age. And please don’t get me started on the difference between a pond and a lake.

Regardless, the blueberries up there on Raggedy Butt are sweeter because of the grunt up to get them. Actually I think it is a combination of the soil and the exposure to the sun. They get it all day and grow as big as farmed blueberries but sweeter.

Nothing beats a bonk on a long Mtn bike ride than coming around a bend and finding an acre of blueberries the bears have not discovered. All the gnarly dudes will stop for blueberries.

Your answer to #9 cracks me up. We had a dog like that. Only she was a puker along with the piddling when the lightening came on strong.

I always thought you were a natural blonde! When you were little, was your hair blonde? ‘Cuz blonde looks very natural with your coloring. 🙂

Nance, I haven’t had a truly good blueberry since I left Fairbanks, and they were wild. So I wonder, if you had a truly good one, from Fairbanks or Maine, you might like it. Then again, if you don’t, that’s more for me. 😉

Oooh! Great meme, J! Love your answers too. Oh, and blueberries!!! YUM! I’m actually trying to grow some this year. I didn’t have luck last year. The soil where I live has too much lime in it. It’s weird because just off the island I live on, they have the most delicious blueberries! A lot of people pick them and sell them on the side of the highway.

I’ve sought out the help of Cherry’s hubby with regard to finding the proper pH balance for the soil and so far the blueberries are doing great. Keeping fingers crossed!

I may have to borrow this meme from you sometime! It’s a good one!

There is something about the color of eggs with Ketchup or salsa that really does not seem right to my eyes. Many people enjoy the taste of the combo.
I just cannot look at it for too long. Nice Meme.
