My favorite fake picture from the election coverage this week, would be Biden sporting Katy Perry’s GOBama dress. Awesome. Picture courtesy of ‘The Daily Show’.

Update in Pictures
Posted in Musings, Recipes, Wordless Wednesday on 03/17/2011 12:19 pm by JI thought you might like to see what’s new around here. These photos aren’t going to win any awards. But they’ll give you something to look at, since you took the time to stop by, right?

My Chicken Pot Pi, for Pi Day on Monday. I tried to cut a cute pi symbol in the top, but it oozed yumminess from inside, so you can’t really see the symbol. You can see Ted presenting the pie, however, with his model hand. That’s a hand like a model, um, not a fake hand.
This is Maya’s little frog, Buffy. She is about a year old. Maya received her as a gift last year on her birthday. She came in a little container, with a friend (Willow), and when they had shown their strength by living for a few months, I bought them this little 1 gallon tank, so they’d have a filter and a bit more room. Sadly, Willow passed on a few months ago. Buffy and her snail friend (Gary? No, Xander) are doing well.

These are donut muffins, which my friend Jeff mentioned on Facebook, and I decided to try. The recipe is from Girl Who Bakes, for Cinnamon Sugar Donut Muffins. I thought it might be nice to make some chocolate ones as well, so I made one batch according to the recipe, and a second where I omitted the cinnamon and nutmeg, and instead covered them with a chocolate glaze, which was an Alton Brown recipe I found on FoodNetwork.com. I liked the cinnamon version better, because the donuts had more depth somehow. But both were good.

Now here are a couple of bundt cakes. Maya’s cheer squad had a potluck, and the Freshman Squad was supposed to bring dessert. I went to the store to see what I could find to bring, but nothing really appealed to me. Safeway sometimes has a nice pudding ring in the bakery, but all they had this time was messy pies and cakes, and boring cookies. So I went over to the baking aisle, and found some Betty Crocker Double Chocolate Muffin mix. Muffins are fine, but a bundt cake seemed better to me, so I bought two boxes of mix, and baked them up into bundt cakes. I decorated one with plain powdered sugar, and for the second one, I used the leftover chocolate glaze from the donut muffins. Gorgeous.

It’s spring around here (though it was in the high 30s this morning), and the lilies in our yard are starting to bloom.
My California Poppies are doing well. They’re blooming already elsewhere, so bright and orange and cheerful. I can’t wait until mine bloom. I do like seeing them sprout up, though.
That’s it for now. Hope you enjoyed my little photo essay, such as it is.
