Meme Monday – Random Stuff

Today’s post is not really related to the meme at all. I’m not feeling stupid, except perhaps sometimes when I am playing my wordscapes game on my phone and the word I can’t manage to come up with is something like BANK or HER.

In fact, today’s post has no theme, just hey, what’s going on in J’s life.

Happy to say that we filed our taxes, and we have finally gotten our withholding just about right. We owe $50 to Federal, and we’re getting $70 back from California, so that’s a gain of $20 for us. Yay!

I received a text from my credit card company the other day, asking if I had made a $300 purchase at an online bike store I have never heard of. I mean, perhaps I have bought a jersey or something there for Ted in the past, who knows. But no, no purchase this time. So they cancelled my credit card and sent me a new one, and credited my account for the amount that was charged. Well, now the bike store has also credited me, so I have a $300 credit on my card. What to do? I didn’t know, so I called the credit card company and they said, you can’t really do anything, you have to wait and they will reverse it at some point. OK, whatever.

Maya spent a lot of money at the dry cleaner the other day, she had some tricky alterations done. The owner of the store felt bad, I guess, and gave us two of these masks, which are very good and very comfortable. We loved them, so I went online and ordered some. We went to a birthday party for Ted’s brother on Saturday, and his brother was so uncomfortable, his mask was bugging his ears. Ted and I were extremely comfortable in ours. They didn’t feel hot or pull on our ears, yet seemed very snug and covered what needed to be covered.

The party also included cake and a dish that is called chili rellanoes, but is just cheese with some little diced chilis in it and is delicious. It should really be called ‘Chili Rellano Casserole’. I wrote about the recipe way back in 2009. Here is how they look.

The cake in the background is a Red Velvet cake. I don’t think I’ve ever had red velvet cake before, it was very tasty. I put candles on the cake and lit them, and then while we were singing, realized that with COVID, NO ONE SHOULD BE BLOWING OUT CANDLES, so we waved them out with our hands. So many little things, right?

Our weather continues to be lovely and dry. I had to water my plants yesterday so they wouldn’t die, which I resent in the middle of our rainy season. Sigh.

Saturday was ‘open that bottle’ day, when one is supposed to open a nice bottle of wine, one that they have been saving. I wasn’t feeling it, so didn’t participate, sadly. Ted didn’t want any wine, and I didn’t want to open a nice bottle by myself. I had talked about it with my friend Janet, and she had a bottle all ready to open, but her husband doesn’t like wine, so she also would have been on her own, and said she wasn’t feeling it. We both agreed that it felt like a day to share a nice bottle with someone, not a day to drink it alone. Maybe next year, when this stupid pandemic is firmly behind us, we will be able to share a nice bottle with a friend or two. Did anyone else participate?

Red velvet cake is my favorite! That recipe looks delicious. I usually make my chili rellenos by stuffing the peppers with the cheese and then batter and fry. This sounds much easier. I’m going to give it a try, thanks!

I think you would have liked this cake, Martha, it was delicious!

Yeah, the way you do it is definitely more authentic. I don’t know where this one came from, but it IS easy and delicious. And perhaps even a tiny bit healthier, despite being 99% cheese, due to no deep frying.

Another tradition having to be modified–thanks, Pandemic. Sigh.

I love that meme. The only person dumber than Little Red Riding Hood is Lois Lane, fooled by a suit and a pair of glasses. Duh.

Lois Lane is indeed stupid to be fooled by glasses and a suit. Sigh. I wonder, are we really that stupid? Did Jimmy Olson spend much time with Superman, or was it only Lois?
