What’s With All of the Stupid Spam?

Just looking at my spam filter, and it caught 355 spam comments.  Since YESTERDAY, when there were over 200.  That’s friggin INSANE.  I don’t know how they found me or whatever, but it’s bad.  I have a few ideas of what posts attracted them, but I don’t want to mention them, for fear of attracting even MORE.  I’ll give you a hint.  Nothing that interesting, just something about managing p*a*i*n in the noggin.  I get a lot of spam now for pharmaceuticals.  Ugh.

I was having the same issue a few days ago. At first I thought it was because comments were still open on a lot of old threads (I’ve noticed that’s where they’re generally directed), so I went through and closed comments on a lot of my old posts. It seemed to help, because I noticed an immediate decline.

However, today I saw a few in the moderation queue that were comments on a couple of the closed posts. Apparently, that wasn’t the solution.

So, I have no idea what’s causing the deluge. Just wanted you to know you’re not alone. 🙂 At least with the moderation, none of them are getting through.

Argh – hate when that happens. Due to my blog title alone (the “daughter” part), I get alot of really disturbing spam. I’ll leave it at that.

Mine doesn’t show what it filters (at least I don’t think it does, sometimes I don’t notice the obvious). My mail sure blocks a lot though. Ugh. Is there really that kind of a market out there?

Oooh, that’s a lot. HaloScan is pretty good about stopping the spammers, I have had at most maybe ten spam comments since I signed up with them.

I get them all the time, mostly directed at older posts, but since I moderate comments they aren’t getting through. Some of them shock me, some are just trying to sell something.

I’ve had that problem too. Since mid-December in fact. I can’t figure where it’s coming from but have changed my setting in my Yahoo email account to “never show me the spam” setting. I’m happier now in my state of denial!

I don’t use anything except word verification (that evil looking code on blogger) and I never see spam. Maybe it’s there and filtered out? I never thought to check.

    Maybe I’m just unloved.
