Cowgirl Creamery – Clabbered Cottage Cheese

Cowgirl Creamery Cottage Cheese

I read a review a in the Chronicle for Clabbered Cottage Cheese from a wonderful local creamery, Cowgirl Creamery. Ted and Maya aren’t big fans of cottage cheese, and I don’t want to eat it every day, but once in awhile I love a bowl of it for lunch, and the rave review in the paper had me Jonesing for a try. It took a few weeks for our local Whole Foods to carry it (though after the newspaper review, people were definitely asking), but yesterday when I saw it on their shelf, I had to try some. At $6 for 8oz, it’s not something I’d buy all the time, or let go bad in my fridge, but if I were going to eat it that same day, it’s worth the splurge, right?

So I brought it home, sliced up some tomatoes, added a little salt and pepper, and dived on in. Clearly, the best cottage cheese I’ve ever had. Really, so much better than your standard grocery store stuff. It’s made from just a tiny few ingredients ~ milk, creme fraiche, salt, and cultures. The care they take in creating their product shows, and the addition of creme fraiche…it’s creamy, a bit tangy, SO delicious. I don’t think I’ll buy it often. But especially in late summer, when the tomatoes are crazy good, and nectarines and peaches are full flavor, I’ll enjoy it a few more times. Delicious.  If you get a chance to try it, I suggest you do.

Apathy Lounge, I love that you expressed your dislike so clearly! Sorry you didn’t like it, but in my twisted mind, that just means ‘more for me’. 🙂

Starshine, it’s a yummy treat. Unless you feel like A.L. does.

Sorry Cherry, I ate it all in one lunch. That one bowl was $6. But next time you come out, I could buy some more!
