Update in Pictures

I thought you might like to see what’s new around here.  These photos aren’t going to win any awards. But they’ll give you something to look at, since you took the time to stop by, right?
Chicken Pot Pi
My Chicken Pot Pi, for Pi Day on Monday. I tried to cut a cute pi symbol in the top, but it oozed yumminess from inside, so you can’t really see the symbol. You can see Ted presenting the pie, however, with his model hand. That’s a hand like a model, um, not a fake hand.

Buffy the Frog

This is Maya’s little frog, Buffy. She is about a year old. Maya received her as a gift last year on her birthday. She came in a little container, with a friend (Willow), and when they had shown their strength by living for a few months, I bought them this little 1 gallon tank, so they’d have a filter and a bit more room. Sadly, Willow passed on a few months ago. Buffy and her snail friend (Gary? No, Xander) are doing well.
Donut Muffins

These are donut muffins, which my friend Jeff mentioned on Facebook, and I decided to try. The recipe is from Girl Who Bakes, for Cinnamon Sugar Donut Muffins. I thought it might be nice to make some chocolate ones as well, so I made one batch according to the recipe, and a second where I omitted the cinnamon and nutmeg, and instead covered them with a chocolate glaze, which was an Alton Brown recipe I found on FoodNetwork.com. I liked the cinnamon version better, because the donuts had more depth somehow. But both were good.

Two Bundts
Now here are a couple of bundt cakes. Maya’s cheer squad had a potluck, and the Freshman Squad was supposed to bring dessert. I went to the store to see what I could find to bring, but nothing really appealed to me. Safeway sometimes has a nice pudding ring in the bakery, but all they had this time was messy pies and cakes, and boring cookies. So I went over to the baking aisle, and found some Betty Crocker Double Chocolate Muffin mix. Muffins are fine, but a bundt cake seemed better to me, so I bought two boxes of mix, and baked them up into bundt cakes. I decorated one with plain powdered sugar, and for the second one, I used the leftover chocolate glaze from the donut muffins. Gorgeous.

Lily
It’s spring around here (though it was in the high 30s this morning), and the lilies in our yard are starting to bloom.

CA Poppies

My California Poppies are doing well. They’re blooming already elsewhere, so bright and orange and cheerful. I can’t wait until mine bloom.  I do like seeing them sprout up, though.

That’s it for now.  Hope you enjoyed my little photo essay, such as it is.

    I did! Thank you.

(Hate to mention it, but I heard a horrible thing on On the Media last weekend, about how GPS info is embedded into digital photos, so when a person posts a picture of his or her kid on the swing in the backyard, the location of said swing and backyard become available to all (or, rather, to any who can figure out how to extract that information). This is going to curtail my posting of photos, as I don’t necessarily want the exact longitude and latitude of my cat known to all. 🙂

Oh, good! I didn’t catch all the details, so glad it’s not as bad as reported (by me). I need to listen to that whole OTM again. Sorry for falsish alarm.

Great photos. Ted’s hand looks delicious. By the way, Jess has promised me that she’ll use your recipe the next time she makes broccoli!

I did like them. Rich photos of pieces of a full life. I could have done without the desserts though because I am trying to lose weight. I will forgive you though as I used your broccoli recipe two days ago and loved it.

Rain, the key is to just make such desserts when you know people are coming over, or you’re going to bring it to share. Then you only eat one piece, and the rest magically disappears. 🙂 It’s a win-win!

I’m glad you liked the broccoli so much! It’s yummy, I agree.

We are having Cheater Spring here in NEO. 60s yesterday, 50s today, and then snow again next week. Hate it. My father, a diehard chauvinist although he was in denial of the fact, bless his heart, used to call March “Women’s Weather” because it couldn’t make up its mind. We always called him on it and he never, ever cared.

Your California Poppies fooled me. I thought it was dill!
