Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss and Gillian Welch – Didn’t Leave Nobody but the Baby

We’re up to E on our A to Z Music Monday Meme. There are plenty of great options for ‘E’. I thought of Evanscence, Eurythmics, and Everything But the Girl. (The links all go to the songs I probably would have chosen, on Grooveshark) But instead, I decided to go for Emmylou Harris, even though I don’t really know her music. I do know she worked with Alison Krauss and Gillian Welch on this very sexy song that the Sirens used to draw Ulysses and his mates to the rocks in “O Brother, Where Art Thou”. He wasn’t smart enough to have himself lashed to a mast, so I guess he got what he deserved, huh? Enjoy.

What ‘E’ group would you have chosen?

We love the O Brother soundtrack. A few years ago my husband, daughter and I saw Gillian Welch – great show.

As far as “E”, going back to junior high I listened to The Eagles and Elton John. Not big fans of either anymore.

Elvis is an awesome choice! Eagles and Elton, yeah, not so much. I still like Hotel California, though, and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was a great album.

Until that record with Robert Plant, Alison Krause hadn’t really done a lot for me. But Emmy Lou Harris is something else! (where to start – the Gram Parsons stuff? Wrecking Ball???) Gillian Welch (and the anonymous by choice David Rawlings) are such an incredible live act – their verison of Radiohead’s Black Star is fun too.

No Echo and the Bunnymen? Or Earth? Or Elvis Costello?

Earth Wind and Fire, Enya (some of her songs are nice ), ELO( Electric Light Orchestra). As I wrote that one down I was singing one of their songs.
