Since You Asked…

The interview went…so-so. I did my best, I tried my best to convey my passion for this job, for the idea of it all. I think they heard me. But in the end it’s a sales job, and I don’t know sales. I have zero experience in it. But I think I could do it, and do it well, if I believe in the product, which in this case I very much do. We’ll see if they value enthusiasm over experience, or not.

Word comes early next week. Sigh.

(I used to read Cary Tennis’ column, Since You Asked, in Salon.  Loved it.  I think I should get back to reading it again.)

Sales is so hard, but if you believe in the product I believe you’ll be able to sell it. I once tried for a sales job, mailed my resume and they wrote in caps “THIS IS A SALES POSITION” like I didn’t know that.

It takes sales personality to do well in a sales job. I’m NOT one of those people, so I see exactly where you’re coming from, J. The right job for you is coming your way!

I was talking to John about your interview this weekend. I as we were talking I was telling him that no, you don’t have sales experience, but you have lots of good college experiences and I think this particular job would be perfect for you. I think you can definitely sell the benefits of a college education. I wish I could call them and tell them so. xoxo
