Farewell, Natasha

I was saddend to hear of the skiing accident of Natasha Richardson.  It reminded me of when Princess Diana was killed in that car accident.  The first reports that were reported to the press said, “She has been in a car accident, and has been injured”, which is right and correct and as is should be, to protect the privacy of the family.  This was what we learned before I went to bed that night, and in the morning, I learned that she was dead.  Horrible.

So Natasha, who I remember first and foremost as Offred from “The Handmaid’s Tale“, was skiing, and fell on a beginners slope, with a professional giving her a lesson.  She fell somehow just exactly wrong, and the reports that came out were mixed.  Some said she was injured, others that she was in critical condition.  I feared the worst.  This morning, I heard a radio announcer say that she was brain-dead, and the worst was confirmed.

I thought that she was a wonderful actress, and that she lit up the screen in every film she appeared in.  But more than the loss of the film and stage community, my heart goes out to her family.  Her husband, her parents, her two young sons, her siblings.  My heart aches for them all.  Rest in Peace, Natasha.  You will be missed.

This was just so sad to hear. It’s just so devastating for her family, and the thought of what could have been done, if anything, will probably haunt them always.

    Rest in peace, Natasha.

This totally made me think of Princess Diana, too. The first reports about Princess Diana’s car crash said something like, “Her knee is injured.” I remember thinking, “Oh, OK, that’s not too bad.” And then not much later, just minutes, they said she was dead. I remember how shocked I felt, and I felt much the same way when I heard on KQED that Natasha Richardson was dead. How dreadful for her family.

I am feeling awful that I don’t know who she is. Sounds like she was a very loved actress.
It is always terrible to hear of such news. Reminds me of how risk adverse I have become and how lucky I am that the injuries I have incurred have left me pretty much just fine.

I’ve been following this too. There are so many other stories in the world but the image of this family, the sons, the husband who can’t even have got to say goodbye, is quite devastating.

I’ve always liked her as an actress and was horrified about what happened. So devastated for her family!
