Friday Randomness

Ted got this picture emailed to him the other day, and we’ve all been cracking up over it.  Just in case you haven’t seen it yet, have a chuckle.

Regarding Palin’s clothes, no, the GOP shouldn’t have bought them.  She and her husband make enough money, she could have bought them herself.   Not to slam Alaska, though, there really aren’t that many places to buy the kind of things you would need on the campaign trail.  Not defending her, as I said, she should have bought them with her own money.  Just an observation about shopping options in Alaska. (Actually, there’s a Nordstrom in Anchorage, so she should have had a decent wardrobe already, right?)

Did you see this story, about the Nike Women’s Marathon, which was held on Sunday in New York?  The woman who ran it in the fastest time didn’t win the race, because she wasn’t one of the elite group who got a 20 minute head start over the rank-and-file.   She ran the race a full 11 minutes faster than the woman who was awarded first place.  That’s smells like Bullshit to me.  As does Nike’s statement that they recognize her as ‘a winner’.  Not ‘THE winner’, but ‘A winner’.  Pee-yew.

Have you seen this little sign of hatred?  I can’t wait for this stupid election to be OVER.  I just wish the election being over meant that the hatred would be over.  Ted was watching Bill Mahr the other night, and a guy was on who said that this campaign season is just fueling the seeds of discord and hatred even deeper into our country.  If Obama wins, there will be people out there (ignorant people, but still) who think we have a terrorist for a President, because of signs like this one.  If McCain wins, there will be people out there who are truly, deeply angry.  Ugh.  Thanks to Dr. S for the pic.

One more bitch, then I’ll move on to more cheerful subjects, I promise.  Working from home, and having an old phone with no caller ID, every damn day I get a call with a recorded voice telling me, “Do not be alarmed.  This is your last chance to lock  in lower interest rates.  This offer will expire at midnight tonight.”  Um, that’s what you told me yesterday, asshat.  Usually I just hang up, but yesterday I pushed ‘1’ to speak to a rep so I could request that they take me off of their phone list.  Got to talk to someone for about 5 seconds, because when I asked to be taken off their list, he hung up on me.  Grrr.  Double dumb ass on you.

On a much more cheerful subject, Chrissy gave me this lovely little award, which translates from the Portuguese as “This blog invests and believes, the proximity” (meaning, that blogging makes us ‘close’ -being close through proxy)

Thanks, Chrissy!  There is truth to this, as I have come to care for some of my bloggy buddies as though I knew them in person.   I know that I’ve been worried about Chrissy’s state of mind as she must endure something insane like 100 days of bed rest to see her ‘junior’ safely into the world, and I care for so many of my bloggy friends.  I’m supposed to pass this award on, but I’m going to need to stop and think a bit first.

Tonight, the moms from Maya’s girl scout troop are going to get together for Mexican food and margaritas. Should be fun, and it sounds like a perfect way to start off the weekend. Tomorrow we’re going to a Halloween party. I’ll probably go as a witch again, since I have the costume already. Maya doesn’t have hers yet, so I guess we’ll be doing a little shopping tomorrow, too.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Sigh. That sign makes me angry and sad. I actually came face to face with that kind of ignorance a couple of weeks ago. I had to just walk away because they were too pig headed to listen. I hope you have fun tonight and this weekend J. We are doing NOTHING tonight. Tomorrow we’ll be out and about. Sunday, back to NOTHING. 🙂

Happy Friday! I have come to care about my blog buddies, too, which I guess is what keeps me reading so many every day…cuz it’s important to know what is going on in everyone’ world!

    Have a great weekend!

Michelle, my favorite line was “My kids play hockey, and I wear lipstick, but I’m a thinker, and you’re a dipstick”….HA! Thanks for that.

  • Karen MEG

I saw that photo … it’s so well done I had to do a double take!
Congrats on the well-deserved award. Yeah, poor Chrissy, she’s been on my mind a lot lately. It’s the only way, obviously, but still, not fun.

We just had this new “DNC” list established by the government to register your phone number to avoid telemarketers. The system went down within the first few hours it was up, the government was astonished by the demand!!! Unfortunately it won’t kick in for a month. I work from home part time too, and I just don’t bother to answer the phone most of the time as most of my work stuff comes through e:mail. Whenever I do it’s a stupid recording. That guys sure was a dumbass!

  • Wanderlust Scarlett

    That’s hilarious!!!!

What a fun shot. It’s good to tease both parties at this point. It’s all mud from here on out…. or worse.

Good rant too. I’m so tired of the prerecorded calls I get every single day. And every number I have is on the no call list! BAH!

Have a great time with the moms and at the party, sounds like it will be a very good weekend!!

Thanks so much, J 🙂 I have come to care about my bloggy friends too. I’ve actually become so close to some of them that I’ve included them in parties with some of my friends from outside the blog world. I hate saying “In Real Life Friends” because my blog friends have become friends as well.

Yeah…104 days of bed rest to go. *sigh* But, who’s counting, right? 😉 Just hope this little one stays in there for as long as possible!!

P.S. I saw that photo too, and immediately thought of you!! Another new “things to do on bed rest” thing for me to do is check out all the Tina Fey videos online. Too funny!

  • C

Ooops! Make that 102 days to go! Not that I’m counting though! 😉

The doc just told us he’d very happy and surprised if the baby stayed in for another 4 weeks. Let’s hope he’s wrong. Otherwise “Junior” will be in the neo-natal intensive care unit for a while 🙁

I thought the clip was kind of funny, but it went on a little too long. What’s that saying about brevity and wit?

And yeah, I’m ready for this election to be over because at this point what’s left to say? If you’re losing (like McCain is), then sling as much mud as you can. If you’re doing well (like Obama), you gotta keep focused and not fall for the bait. I guess The Daily Show/Colbert/SNL will keep the laughs coming from now ’til the bitter end of the campaign.

  • Cherry

What election? There’s no election going on in my bubble!

Sigh. C is on my mind a lot too. 102 days, holy crap! That’s a lot of laying around. Hopefully she’s comfortable enough to actually sleep during some of that time.

Hope you have a good weekend! Maybe I’ll run into you at one of the Halloween stores!

  • Jimmy

First.. a shout out to Chrissy and Junior. You’re on my mind a lot too!

    J
I was emailed that photo too and I thought the “Hockey Mama for Obama” youtube clip was hilarious.

It seems Opie, Andy and the Fonz are pulling for Obama too?

I need some chardonnay to cry in!!!!!

I actually came here expecting to see the Opie and andy video clip already posted??:(

Who’s next….Snowwhite and the Seven dwarfs?

Haha – “asshat” – love it. I hate telemarketers too, particularly the ones that call and then have the audacity to ask YOU to wait for one of their reps to join the “conversation”.
