Die How You Live

The discovery of Steve Fossett’s airplane and remains this week got me thinking about death.  My first thought when I read about his plane crashing last year was, “Although I’m sure that he didn’t wish to die yet, this is probably how he would want to go.”  Doing what he loved.  Living his life, not shirking from it, unafraid.

I had the same thought when Steve Irwin died doing what he loved, diving and spending time with animals.

Roy Horn didn’t die from his injuries after being mauled by a tiger, but if he had, he also would be dying according to his passion.

I have to admire that.  Don’t cower, go full gusto, live your life.  Be as careful as you can be, and past that, consequences be damned.

Luckily, reading and napping aren’t terribly dangerous, so I can live my life without much risk.

p.s., I was looking for a graphic for this post, under ‘nap’, and I almost used this one, but then I decided with a title like “die how you live”, someone might think this darling little napper is dead.  But it’s too cute not to share.

Wow! What a very thought provoking post, J! I agree about the dying doing what you are passionate about. That would be a good way to go. That just sounded really weird writing that! You know what I mean though.

Not to sound morbid, but I sometimes think of possible ways I’d make my exit from this existence. I would hope that I’d have had a full life and that I’d “go” having fulfilled many of my aspirations and have had many wonderful experiences that would allow me to die feeling happy.

I’m passionate about hiking, gardening, painting, cooking, taking care of our animals, traveling, being on the beach, being with my family and loved ones. If I died in any of those scenarios, I think I’d feel okay about it.

The one thing that I sometimes fear is dying a horrible violent, senseless death…like perhaps being attacked and killed for the $2 in my wallet or something.

Mmmmkay, I guess it’s getting late and I’m rambling! 😉

I guess for me, I’ll probably die on some bike adventure, while drumming, mixing music, and writing all at the same time.
